It was truly a unifying concept as it helps us to explain and finally understand many different aspects of geography such as the geography of rock types, volcanism, seismicity and so on. It unified all concepts and contributed to a major leap in science, just like in case of Darwinian evolution. Alfred Wegener was the first scientist to publicly put forth the theory of continental drift.
Essay On Plate Tectonics
The theory was developed during first decade of 20th century by a famous advocate Alfred Wegener on the older concept of continental drift and was accepted by many geoscientific communities. There are currently seven major and many minor plates are present in the case of earth. These plates move in relation to one another at one of three types of plate boundaries: convergent or collisional boundaries; divergent boundaries, also called spreading centres; and conservative transform boundaries.
Plate Tectonics Ever since the beginning on time, Humans believed the ground is solid and immobile. But this is not true whatsoever. The Earth is every-changing and continually in motion. The stability of the Earth is not at all what we think it is. Thinking about the rotational axis of the Earth, and possibly of what the Earth may become at a certain point in time, has a great influence on understanding all aspects of living things, either in the past, present, or future.
