Taking a sabbatical from your job doesn't have to be a blemish on your resume, though, according to one of PayPal's most senior staff members, Rohan Mahadevan. At 30, after completing his PhD in astrophysics and briefly running a start-up, Mahadevan and his wife sold all their belongings and packed their bags for a month around-the-world trip. On returning, he scored a job at the then-relatively unknown PayPal.

In addition, showing the employer that you are currently getting a certificate can emphasize that you are passionate enough about the field to continually better yourself. Thus, you should list a certificate not yet received on your resume, but you should do it in such a way that it is clear you are not already certified.
